Luis Suarez is proving a big hit in South Africa, having scored 3 goals already in the competition. The top clubs in Europe are now all queuing up to secure his signature for the start of next season, which is no surprise when you see his goal scoring record in the Dutch league.
Any potential suitor for the Uruguayan striker will have to come up with a lot of money to prize him away from Ajax, once the World Cup has finished. His price tag has gone up by a good few million since he fired his team into the quarterfinals for the first time in 40 years.
Suarez joined Ajax from fellow Dutch side Groningen for €7.5m in the summer of 2007, and he hasn’t really looked back since. During his first season at Ajax Suarez scored 20 goals in just 41 appearances, a tally that was bettered the season after when he netted 28 goals in 43 appearances.
His most prolific season for Ajax was the last, however, when he scored an unbelievable 49 goals from 48 appearances. This goal to games ratio has rightly earned him the reputation as being a goal machine, and now he is proving that on the global stage.
Suarez, still only 23 years old, could be playing in the Premiership next season as Chelsea, Manchester United and City are all said to be interested in signing him. They will face tough competition from Real Madrid, however, as Jose Mourinho is also said to be keen on bringing him to the Bernabeu.
