Mesut Ozil has made the top teams in Europe sit up with his performance against Australia and the Werder Bremen playmaker is set to be one of the stars of the tournament.
Mesut Ozil put in a dazzling display for the Germans, helping them to run out 4-0 winners against Australia in their opening Group D fxiture. The top European scouts will be watering at the mouth and there may be a rush to get his signature when then World Cup finishes in July.
Ozil started his career with Bundesliga side Shalke but didn’t really impress until he moved to Breman in January 2008, for a report €4.8m. In his first full season for Breman, Ozil made 47 appearances for the German side scoring an impressive 9 goals.
This goal tally was improved on in the 2009/10 season, when Ozil made 46 appearances and scored 11 goals. He made his international debut for the senior German side in February 2009, and scored his first international goal in only his third appearance, against South Africa in September of the same year.
Both his parents are Turkish which caused some controversy when he decided to play for Germany, not Turkey. Based on last nights performance, however, it could be a wise decision as the Germans could go far in the tournament.
